What to see in Brussels

Where is Brussels? After nearly 6 weeks in France we decided we were ready for a new country …. something drastically different perhaps? So we drove about 4 hours north east across the boarder and we landed in Belgium. For those you who haven’t been, Belgium is pretty similar to France, although citizens of both countries might choose to deny it! However, we had some friends in Brussels so we thought we might go and visit for a few days. The first thing we did was have a belated little birthday Party for Tom. It turns out you really don’t...

The Island of Lokrum

One of my favourite days on our Europe trip this summer was this one! I had read about Lokrum and heard that it was a must see when you travel to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Well it certainly didn’t disappoint. We headed down to the port and bought tickets out to the island of Lokrum. It takes about half an hour to get from Dubrovnik to Lokrum and costs around 10 euros per person (return) The ferry is smooth and comfortable which was a bit of a blessing as I get sea sick quite easily. Sailing into the little Lokrum Beach...

Monet’s Garden in Giverny

I have always been a bit of a Monet fan. I love the colours, I love the texture and I love the subject matter. I also love the way you can look at one of his paintings from a distance and it looks perfect and yet up close it is a mess of beautiful colours. As we had a bit of time in Vernon we waited until a day where the weather was perfect before we headed out to Monet’s Gardens in Giverny. We had driven out twice before but the queues were quite long and rain looked possible...

Vernon and the Pretty Country

Vernon is a quaint little town about 50 minutes by train from the centre of Paris. We stayed here for 2 weeks in our Vernon housesit and really enjoyed living in this part of the world. It is rural France while still being close to Paris and major shopping areas. There are lots of activities to do in the area but to be honestsome of the things we enjoyed the most was just driving around, playing in parks and stopping when we saw something pretty. One of the most popular things is to kayak or boat on the river. As...

What to do in Dubrovnik

What to do in Dubrovnik

In August we bought last minute flights from Brussels to Dubrovnik in Croatia as we were keen for some sunshine and good beaches. I was amazed at how varied the prices were. One of the best things about Europe is all the airports are super close together and so you can pick and choose where you fly from and to and if need be you can hope on a train or a bus for two hours to another airport and save a couple of hundred Euros. This proved to be quite handy, especially as there were 4 of us! We...

My Two Favourite Things to Do in Kotor

My Two Favourite Things to Do in Kotor

Old Town Markets I love a good food market. I love the smell, the colours and the lovely way they bring a whole community together whether it is daily, weekly or monthly. The food markets in Kotor are located just in front of the entrance to the Old Town and were fabulous and did not disappoint. I managed to ‘lose’ Scott and the kids for a bit and got to have a really good look around. I have a personal facination with the price of local produce. I am not sure where it came from but I have always...
