Dijon; Caves, Vineyards and Having Fun
The vineyards near Dijon had been recommend, so we decided to stop for two days. Scott found us a lovely little hotel on Expedia. We didn’t arrive until after dark and were very surprised to find that it had a delightful restuarant downstairs. We had one of the most wonderful meals. The food was excellent, the wine was delicious and the kids played happily on their devices while Scott and I enjoyed a lovely night out. I am not a hug fan of kids with iPads in restaurants, but we have decided that it is necessary sometimes, just so we...
Read MoreAnnecy: Heaven on Earth
I’ll admit I hadn’t heard of Annecy until about 3 days before we went. A friend told me to go and after that I kept seeing it pop up everywhere. So off we went. Boy was it worth it! Annecy is in the very east of France on the Swiss boarder, near Geneva. The drive in and out is stunning and it is possibly the prettiest little town I have been to in France. Everywhere you go you are faced with beauty. It is set on a lake that is surrounded by picturesque mountains and edged with cottages, greenery...
Read MoreGlacial Ice Caves and delicious food in the Alps
While we were up at Les Deux Alps we visited the Ice Caves. They had been recommend by a few people so we thought it was worth a visit. You need to take a the two Jandry Express chairlifts to get up there, but it is well worth the trip. The entrance is in the side of a snow field and if you weren’t careful you could totally miss it. Apparently the caves are carved inside a glacier that has been there for 1000s of years. We were relatively warm outside but as we went in it go colder and colder....
Read MoreHousesitting in Vernon
We spent 2 weeks in a lovely little housesit in Vernon, just outside Paris. After a bit of deliberation we decided to head north again from the centre of France as this opportunity came up. We found it on Nomador, spoke with the lovely owners and everything was set. The night we arrived the friendly owners of the house had prepared a delicious meal for us. It was the first time we had be able to meet housesit owners and it certainly made us feel very comfortable. The house was lovely and located just out of town on a semi-rural...
Read MoreThe Joy of Seeing Snow for the First Time
We spent nearly a week in the Alps, however for the first 3 days there was a blizzard and so we couldn’t take the kids up to the top of the mountain to see the snow. We chose to stay near Les Deux Alpes as it is one of the few ski resorts in France that runs through the summer. Scott and I have skiied quite a few times in the past, but we haven’t done so since the kids were born. As we aren’t planning on staying in Europe for the winter, we thought this might be a great opportunity...
