Ubud Markets and Cooking Class

My friend Claire came out to see me in December and we decided to do a cooking class together. Despite living here for nearly 10 months I was yet to participate in one. We chose the Casa Luna Cooking school which is fairly famous as it is connected to Casa Luna Restaurant, Indus Restaurant and the Honeymoon Guesthouse (which I think used to be the Honeymoon Bakery). All are owned by the author Janet DeNeefe who has been living here since the 80s. I have read one of her books and I was intrigued to learn more about the...

The Effect of Change

One of the lovely parts about our lifestyle up here is our ability to easily step back and really enjoy each day as it comes. It is something that I was really looking forward to, yet hadn’t counted on exactly how much effect it would have on me. When we lived in Australia, free time was our rarest commodity. We were always rushing around, doing odd jobs, running errands, shopping, fixing parts of the house, cooking, cleaning, washing, driving the kids around, amongst many other things. Now that we live in Ubud, many of these are no longer on...

The Gili Islands

As you can see, keeping up to date with my blog is not my thing! We have been so busy over the last few months I really haven’t had time to get around to it! However I am going to try and post once a week over the next month or so and try use my blog as more of a photo journal (as it is prettier) and a record of our life up here! In September our lovely friends Lou and Laurie Walker and their two little boys Finn and Toby flew up to visit us! We had...

A Little Extra Time

One question I seem to get a lot is “What do you do with your time?” To be honest our life up here is pretty awesome. We have lots of time to play with the kids, swim in the pool, we get to spend time together, go to day spa’s and get massages, take the kids out and just enjoy a slower pace of life. This is a real treasure for me as I have young kids and spent most of our life in Australia rushing around like a mad woman trying to get everything done! One of the...

The Freedom to Go Anywhere

As much as I am loving our life up here there are some things I miss. Family, friends and perhaps a cold night in front of the fire with a glass of red! After the full moon we were having a bit of a chat and decided it might be nice to go home for a week or two. So we hoped online and booked tickets for this weekend. One of the wonderful perks in our lifestyle is that we don’t really have to stick to a schedule and can do whatever we want most of the time. I...

Sand, Sanur and the Super Moon

Tonight was a full moon and not just any full moon but a Super moon. This means the Moon is closer to the Earth and often will appear much larger and brighter than normal. I had also read that apparently this particular moon is the closest it has been to the earth in 19 years. So we headed off to the beach to enjoy our evening. It is days like this that actually make me second guess our move to Ubud! Whilst I love living up in the mountains with the peace, jungle and the rice fields …. I...
